Arkema, a pioneer and leader in high-performance materials for 3D printing, continues its development in additive manufacturing and provides innovative and sustainable new material solutions for all major 3D printing technologies. The Group has expanded its list of industrial partnerships and collaborative research programs all along the supply chain.

During Formnext, taking place from November 16 to 19 in Frankfurt (Germany), Arkema will unveil several new products and strategic partnerships with key players all along the supply chain to leverage the unique features of additive manufacturing: freedom of design and customization, speed of implementation, and savings on raw materials use.

Arkema offers the most extensive range of materials for each of the major 3D printing technologies:

Radiation Curing

N3xtDimension® liquid resins are pioneering solutions for UV curable 3D printing with unique building blocks, photoinitiators, engineered resins[1] and custom formulations, strengthened by the recent acquisition of Colorado Photopolymer Solutions.

At the exhibition, Arkema will introduce five new high performance custom formulations for UV-curing:

  • N3D-TOUGH784: High-strength material with excellent tensile strength and flexibility
  • HT511: Tough high-temperature resin
  • N3D – MODEL115: Performance resin designed to print accurate dental models
  • IC163: Casting resin for printing high-resolution, high-detail parts that burn out cleanly, as well as the brand new PRO22802 elastomeric engineered resin offering outstanding balance between elongation at break and tear strength, leading to excellent mechanical properties.

[1] N3xtDimension® engineered resins enable targeted performance, add your package of photoinitiators, UV blockers, additives, and pigment to have ready to print solutions customized to your printers.

To meet the increasing demand in advanced electronic applications, the company has designed PRO14729, PRO14730 and PRO14731 new ultra-low loss materials with varied viscosities for radio frequency (RF) applications. These materials are UV curable resins capable of providing very low dielectric constant and a dissipation factor, ideal for 3D printing in advanced electronic applications.

One of latest UV curing industrial application ADAPTIVE success stories is ADAPTIVE, by Fizik, a performance cycling saddle with a revolutionary 3D printed padding using Carbon Design Engine Software to offer seamlessly engineered zonal cushioning.

The saddles are manufactured via the Carbon Digital Light SynthesisTM (DSL) using Carbon’s EPU 41 resin which leverages Arkema’s key N3xtDimension® resin components at scale. The base material is an elastomeric resin used in lattice-designed products to deliver optimal energy control.

Powder bed fusion

Arkema, is pleased to showcase the new SLS PEBAX® powder. This partially bio-based thermoplastic elastomer for Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) provides the ideal combination of the traditional strength of polyamides plus the flexibility and elasticity of polyethers/polyesters, already world famous in sports, medical, and industrial applications.

New partnerships

  • Advanced Laser Materials (ALM), an EOS company and leading materials developer for industrial 3D printing, has released the industry’s first-ever carbon neutral certified polymer materials line made with Arkema’s Advanced bio-circular Polyamide 11 material, optimized for high performance. The use of these sustainable polymer materials produced by Arkema is another step in EOS’ commitment to Responsible Manufacturing and sustainability and Arkema’s commitment as a world leader in bio-circular materials.
  • iAMfootwear Consortium consisting of Framas, Dyemansion, EOS, Siemens, Twikit, and Arkema is bringing to life a shoe with a customized high performance 3D printed midsole made from Pebax® elastomers using the DigitalFoam™ concept.

"At Arkema, we are constantly developing new technologies to address current and future additive manufacturing industry opportunities. Committed to a more sustainable world, we are partnering with cutting-edge leaders in the field to deliver solutions that are addressing the circular economy and low environmental impact» said Sumeet Jain, Senior Director of 3D Printing Worldwide at Arkema. “We are eager to meet with our customers and partners, and to share our latest innovations at Formnext."
